The episode takes place after the events of the game
Original stories set in iconic video game worlds are presented in this animated anthology series. Video games have burst onto the screen in a big way, and we’re celebrating the genre by taking a closer look at over 50 video game adaptations in film and television. Clive Standen reprises his voice role as Demetrius Titus, the protagonist of the video game Space Marine 2.
The list of titles is staggering
Aside from a few cool episodes, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The writing is painfully average, dragging the entire show down despite its undeniably impressive visuals—though even they feel like rehashed leftovers from a decade of excellent video game cutscenes. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that hasn’t been done (and done better) by video game marketing over the past 10 years?
Where are the big names?
The lack of heavy hitters screams one thing: Either the creators wanted nothing to do with this disaster or they were waiting to see if Season 1 could land. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. The creators completely misunderstand the short form of storytelling.
What should have been tight, impactful, and memorable ends up disjointed and uninspired
Variety called it an “uninspired snooze,” and for once, Variety wasn’t quite raw enough. Secret Level is proof that flashy visuals can’t hide a lack of vision, heart, or originality! Your guide to all the new movies and shows streaming on Prime Video in the US this month.
